RedCape Theatre are currently researching a new performance to be called 1 Beach Road. The development period is on going and the show will be available for autumn 2011.
1 Beach Road is a tale of defiance, a shrinking island, synchronised swimming and trying to turn back the tide. Like The Idiot Colony the starting point is true stories; stories from the communities that are beginning to disappear from the east coast of England, they’re literally falling into the sea - Britain’s first climate change refugees.Combining their mix of visual theatre, physical storytelling, new writing (to be written in collaboration with New York playwright Suli Holum) and a sense of humour 1 Beach Road will uncover people's stories hidden beneath the statistics and the rubble. What does it mean to lose your home from under your feet?

From Newbury with Love
From Newbury With Love is a book of letters exchanged between1971 and 1986 between Harold & Olive Edwards, antiquarian booksellers in Newbury and the family of Marina Aidova, the daughter of an imprisoned Soviet dissident, living in Kishinev, Moldova. This exchange of letters was inspired by the Amnesty letter-writing campaign.
Scheduled for activity to take place in 2011, Amnesty’s 50th anniversary, Redcape Theatre will devise a play based on an adaptation of the book which will premiere at The Corn Exchange, Newbury and then be performed in Moldova. There will also be a cultural exchange programme between youth theatre groups in Newbury and Moldova. This will take place over a number of weeks prior to the premiere performance. The youth group’s performance will be inter woven into the play and involve live interaction between The Corn Exchange and a theatre in Moldova.
